IND VS AUS Day 2, 1st Test LIVE: Left-Handers Jadeja and Axar Guide India to a Strong Finish on Day 2

Share

India will aim to maintain their superiority over Australia as they face each other in the first match of the four-Test series for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at the Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium in Nagpur starting on February 9th. India had held the BGT since 2015 when Australia last won a series against them. The Indian team has only lost one of their last five Tests, having defeated the Aussies twice on their home soil and once in India. The series holds significance for both sides as they strive to secure their place in the ICC World Test Championships Final, set to take place at the Oval in London from June 7th to 11th this year.

India’s team will be boosted by the return of key players like skipper Rohit Sharma, former captain Virat Kohli, and vice-captain KL Rahul, who all skipped the three-match T20I series against New Zealand. However, there are concerns over injuries with Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer both ruled out. KS Bharat will be India’s WicketKeeper in the first Test, while Suryakumary Yadav will replace Iyer to make his debut in Test. The Nagpur pitch has been a hot topic of discussion ahead of the game, expected to produce spin early on.

Rohit Sharma will be pleased with the availability of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who will make his return to international cricket since last year’s Asia Cup. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel are expected to be the other spin bowlers in the attack. On the other hand, Cummins faces a challenging task with all-rounder Cameron Green and pace bowler Josh Hazlewood unavailable for the first Test.
