Now become an IITian without JEE !!

Students can graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) without having to take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) thanks to the BSc in the data science program. Although if students are excused from the demanding preparation and competition needed to succeed in the JEE Main for engineering and the JEE Advanced for admission to the IITs, finishing the program is still far from easy.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the education minister, introduced it on Monday.

Students may be situated anywhere but the exam places are now limited to Sri Lanka, India, and the United Arab Emirates. IIT Madras professor, Prathap Haridoss, said  “This program offers the flexibility of learning at your own pace with the best institute in the country. Through this program, we are allowing anyone to join the brand IIT and get a degree”

Eligibility

A minimum of Class 12 in both physics and math is needed for candidates who studied math until class 10. Any applicant, no matter what age they are, may apply.

Entrance test

There is no admission exam process. Not everybody is able to stay, IIT Madras holds a qualifying test after a month. They are admitted to the foundation stage if they clear the exam.

IIT Madras said there are three levels at which the course is being offered the fundamental program, the diploma program, and the degree program. Students have the choice to leave the program with a certificate, diploma, or degree,  depending on the level of the program they are at.

Fees

The course has been designed to be affordable for students from across all economic groups, as per IIT Madras. Furthermore, additional scholarships will be provided for children who come under the SC/ST/PwD groups and whose family makes less than Rs 5 lakh annually.

IIT Madras said, “For students from disadvantaged communities who are able to stay on beyond the qualifier test, IIT Madras offers up to 75% fee waivers; some get 50% waivers. “If your family income is below Rs 1 lakh, you will get a 75% fee waiver. For a fee of Rs 60,000, a student can get this degree”.

Seats

There is no limit on how many students can enroll in the course. All applicants are eligible to proceed in the program if they pass the qualifying exam with the required minimum score.

 The education minister said, ”The Government of India is facilitating good policy reforms with initiatives like PLI (Production Linked Incentive Scheme) to create a global hotspot for this ecosystem. I am confident, happy, and proud that the Director of IIT Madras is always ahead of time.” He said this year’s Budget was an indication of the government’s commitment toward this digital ecosystem. This course is going to create a new benchmark for all other important institutions and industries also.”

According to information provided by the college, this is the 2nd BS course offered by IIT Madras, after their flagship BS degree in Data Science and Applications. The latter course has drawn more than 17,000 students.

Data science jobs

According to the IIT Madras, there will be a huge demand for people with knowledge in data science in the future decade. According to Thangaraj, there is a huge demand for data scientists who can also program. When we made the decision to launch a program in the online format, we chose this program since it can be offered online and would be in high demand in the next years.

IIT Madras professor, Prathap Haridoss, said The program complies with the National Education Policy (NEP), which enables students to enroll in online courses and provides a variety of access and departure points. This online program is also open to students enrolled in other degree programs concurrently.
